Monarchs extends winning streak to five games
The women’s water polo team outscored their opponents 54 to 20 while collecting three-straight wins over the weekend.

The Monarchs dominated at the LAVC Aquatics Center this weekend with three consecutive victories and 54 goals against East Los Angeles College, El Camino and Grossmont, pushing Valley to a perfect 5-0 home standing.
The offensive surge was unmatched as they averaged 18 goals per game, extending a streak of scoring 17 or more in the last four contests.
During Friday afternoon's match against ELAC, the Monarchs scored with an immediate game-opening strike from Stella Kalab 16 seconds into the game. The Monarch collected another six goals during the first quarter. Brina Brati assisted on four of the goals.
Early into the second quarter, Lori Libraian added back-to-back goals within 40 seconds of each other, extending the lead to 9-0.
Before the end of the contest, Valley added eight more goals, while only allowing four during the contest, ending the day with a 17-4 scoreline.
With the sweep from their game on Friday, Valley entered their annual water polo tournament on Saturday morning with high spirits, crushing El Camino College with an 18-10 scoreline at final whistle and setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.
In the first quarter of the match, both teams had a competitive 5-4 shootout, with Valley pulling ahead by halftime with a 8-4 lead.
Ani Thomassian earned her top spot in a dominating performance, with 4 goals, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Rounding out their weekend with Saturday afternoon’s match, the Monarchs defeated Grossmont in a 19-6 blowout with their third and final victory.
Monarchs lead exploded to 5-0 during the opening three minutes of the game, including a hat trick by Catalina Maldonado. Along with 8 assists and 6 total goals scored, her multi-threat attacks is what led to becoming this weekend's primary facilitator.
Freshman Armine Zelveyan led the Monarchs in scoring over the weekend, tallying 10 goals.
