BRIEF: Graduation Petition deadline approaches

Updated: Mar 10, 2023

Monarchs expecting to walk the stage during the graduation ceremony on June 6 need to petition to graduate by this Friday.

The ceremony is for students who completed their associate degree during summer and fall 2022 and winter 2023. It is also available for students who plan to complete their associate degree at the end of the Spring semester.

While students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to help them complete their petition to graduate, it is not required. Students can also submit it themselves through the student portal. The application will be reviewed by a counselor, which may take extra time. According to last year’s website posting, the process without a counselor takes up to four months and should be ready by August.

The graduation ceremony will be held at the Valley College Monarch Stadium on Tuesday, June 6. Graduates must purchase a black cap and gown, sash and diploma covers, which can be purchased at the campus bookstore. Students will not receive their diplomas the day of the ceremony, but will receive it by mail.

Monarchs are asked to verify their address on file and make sure it is up to date. Degrees will also be posted on their official transcript and can be ordered through the student portal.

The deadline for future graduates to reserve their seat at graduation and receive tickets is May 12.

For assistance students can visit the Admissions and Records office, or contact them at (818) 947-2553. They can also visit their website at www.lavc.edu/admissions.

The Valley Star News is a website (including its social media platforms), a general-circulation broadsheet, and a magazine (The Crown) that serves as a laboratory for the journalism/photography programs and a bulletin board for the campus community.
