After scoring 10 runs by the second inning, the visiting Marauders (2-1 WSC) beat the Monarchs (0-3 WSC) by mercy rule 15-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Following a whole week of game cancellations due to bad weather, Valley College hosted second-ranked in-conference Antelope Valley College.

The Marauder's offense got started early and persisted throughout the entire five innings of play.

Throughout the match-up, the visiting team put together 12 hits and brought in 15 runs.

In the first inning, the Monarchs were only to score one run from a homerun over the center field wall from sophomore Violeta Espinoza. The Marauder's pitching held Valley to a total of five hits.

The home team only used two pitchers: sophomore Isabel Ward who got the start and sophomore Jessica Lopez who would go the distance.

Sophomore Isabel Ward and Jessica Lopez pitched the duration of the game for the Monarchs. Ward got the start and Lopez relieved her in the second, pitching the remaining three innings.

“It wasn’t our best,” said Contreras. “We definitely could’ve done a lot better.”
